Politika has been publishing since 1904. That produces two things: a daily newspaper, and an archive that stretches back further than almost any other title in the region.
Most publishers' digital products are built around a subscription - pay monthly, read everything. Politika's is built around a shop, and for a paper with this much history behind it, that turns out to be the more useful model.
A newsstand, not a subscription
Politika Prodavnica sells individual digital editions of Politika and Sportski žurnal. A reader buys the issue they want, when they want it, in the same way they would at a kiosk: no standing commitment, no monthly charge for days they didn't read.
For a large part of a legacy title's readership, that's a better fit than a subscription. A reader who buys the paper twice a week isn't looking for unlimited access; they're looking for two papers.
The archive
Alongside current editions, readers can reach past issues.
For a newspaper publishing since 1904, that back catalogue is an asset with almost no equivalent among competitors. It has obvious value to researchers, historians, students and journalists and less obvious but consistent value to readers looking for a specific date: an event they remember, a match report, the paper from the day they were born.
Selling access to it turns an archive that costs money to maintain into something that generates revenue.
Reading it
Editions are prepared for reading on a phone or tablet rather than presented as a scan of the printed page, with navigation that lets a reader move through an issue the way they would through the paper.
The platform behind it
Politika Prodavnica runs on our publisher platform, with digital edition distribution, individual purchasing and archive access handled through mPanel CMS.
The commerce layer is the part that matters here. Selling individual issues, and individual back issues, requires transaction handling that a subscription product doesn't need and it's built into the platform rather than bolted onto it.
